Is Sachin the greatest ever?

Home » Is Sachin the greatest ever?

On back of the record shattering 200 by Sachin, I thought I’ll create a post to gather your opinion on a very hot topic. Before that, what an awesome feat!?! Man when I heard the news – did I go into coma for a second or what. Unbelievable milestone. Finally, Saeed Anwar’s world record is shattered & by none other than Sachin!

I have always refrained from all forms of exaggeration on the website(well, apart from the coma comment above) so this could be one of the first or may be it isn’t? You decide.

My question is:

Is Sachin Tendulkar the greatest batsman of all time?

21 years of international cricket performing against different bowlers all over the world, managing the expectations from 1 billion people, surviving the third umpires & super slow motion cameras which assist the bowlers, and finally scoring 93 hundreds(if you count the world record 200 along his hundreds), 147 fifties & 31,000 runs. How many batsmen in the world have done this before?

I am a great fan of Sir Don Bradman. I have preserved a cricket magazine which ran a Don special about 12 years back. So, I am not typical!

Now, the Don hadn’t played under lights, no One day internationals to run parallel with Test matches, no computers to spot his weakness & no hectic schedules. But to his credit(and he’s got plenty), Don played on uncovered(mean & fast) pitches without any protection, handled expectations & kept humble(just like Sachin), and had a long & distinguished career.

Batting averages will imply Sir Don is the best ever. But you consider the number of runs scored & Sachin is simply the best ever. So, what do YOU think?!

The best replies will be compiled on a special page called “The Fan Pulse” which will be linked permanently on the home page.

Once again, the question is:
Is Sachin Tendulkar the greatest batsman of all time?

I am kind of irritated with this Don Brasman comparison and this question in particular… it was asked yesterday on some news channel as well and i switched channel immediately..

Please people… considering the passion and commitment that Sachin carries for the game… just let us acknowledge as he is one of the jewels in the crown, propbably the center piece… we should not be undermining any other player and i am sure Sachin would not want to either.

He is great player, human being and that the world knows and acknowledges as well…

People should not compare the two talent i.e. between sachin and Bradman. Both are legend in their era.
Now, if we really want to choose one of them, we should rate both the batsman on some certain parameters. Obviously sachin will score more in most of the parameters than Bradman.
Many critics say that Bradman is best as he faced lot of fast/swing bowler without using any technology help. But in response of that argument I would say yes, sachin may use the latest technology but he is not the only one. The bowlers/fielders also make their strategy with help of the available technology. Hence we may conclude the game after using technology is much acute and competative. So its inevitable true that todays cricket is much more rectified and attractive .
On the other side Bradman had not been played 3 type of cricket with different role, I mean Test,Oneday, twenty twenty. The combination of different roles with accuracy, timing, cleverness , defence and destruction and public entertainment reached him far ahead of Bradman .
The third and last thing is Bradman had not been played so much frequent cricket which leads to fall of performance after sometime. In this case sachin consistently scored very well for a really long time in most of the games and keep him fit to stand for 50 overs .

Considering the few of the required parameters , yes again ..sachin is great than Bradman and there is no doubt that this type of talent comes only once in a century or more than that.

After Sachin’s innings at the WACA, John Woodcock said “Gentlemen, he is the best batsman I have seen in my life and unlike most of you, I have seen Bradman bat”. Greatness has no measure, it is inevitable. Some people are born great, some people become great in course of life and some have greatness thrust upon them. Both the Don and Sachin belong to the second category.

SACHIN THE MAN WITH ALMOST ALL THE RECORDS IN HIS NAME. I DON’T THINK WE SHOULD CONSIDER HIM AS THE GREATEST EVER CRICKETER THROUGH THE NUMBERS. IN OTHER DAY ANOTHER PLAYERWHO IS BETTER THAN SACHIN TENDULKAR SCORED RUNS MORE THAN HIM. BUT THE PASSION , THE LOVE , THE HARDWORK, THE DEDICATION, MORE IMPORTANTLY RESPECT TO THE NATION AND FLAG. NO ONE CAME IN TO HIS CALIBER OR EVEN HIS THOUGHTS. HE IS BORN IN THE WORLD TO PLAY CRICKET ONLY FOR OUR OWN INDIA. TO SHOW WHAT AN INDIAN CAN DO IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
